Feature Short Films

Thanks to valuable festival partners Screen West, CinéfestOZ are creating opportunities for budding film makers to have their works seen prior to several films screened during the festival. See below for details about the various short films selected.

Most of these films are unclassified but use Adult Themes and have a recommended rating of M for mature audiences.

The water was dark and it went forever down 

This film is based on the Tim Winton story of the same name, directed by WA-based Miranda and Khrob Edmonds and produced by Kate Beverley. Lucky viewers of 'My Year Without Sex' will be privileged to a WA first viewing of this short film prior to the various screenings. The film is just over 11 minutes long and is the metaphoric story of a young girl trying to escape the drowning influence of her alcoholic mother.

CinéfestOZ is also pleased to host both Miranda and Kate for the duration of the festival.

Storytime

Storytime is the short tale of two adventurous Kimberley kids that wander deep into the Mangroves at sunset, only to find the terrifying campfire stories of the Gooynbooyn Woman may not be myth after-all…

Storytime is just under ten minutes long, and is produced by Belinda Kelsall and written/directed by Jub Clerc. It is being screened prior to all viewings of Samson and Delilah, in addition to the short film sessions at the Art Geo Gallery.

My Uncle Bluey

Enjoy this short documentary about the discovery of the true story of a family's 'Uncle Bluey, and an analysis of things that tear families apart, what brings them back together, and how your family is your family. Always.

Produced by James Grandison (Nollamara/West Leederville) and written/directed by Britt Arthur (Perth), this film will be screened prior to all viewings of 'Summer Hours', in addition to the short film sessions at the Art Geo Gallery.

Bollywood Dreaming

Bollywood Dreaming is a Deadly Yarns film by Mitch Torres and Cornel Ozies; a short documentary about Jedda Rae Hill; a 16 year old skate-crazy Aboriginal Afro American girl who dreams of star in a Bollywood movie. Her world is a mixture of real time and fantasy, but how will she make her dreams come true?

This film will be screened prior to all viewings of 'The Combination', in addition to the short film sessions at the Art Geo Gallery.
